Ethiopia and Eritrea accuse one another of launching war

By TOE | Posted TOE Ethiopia and Eritrea each accused the other of starting a war of aggression on Friday as an internal Ethiopian conflict threatened to escalate into a regional war. Ethiopia accuses Eritrea of backing rebels in its northern Tigray state, who launched attacks against federal forces last month. The two countries severed diplomatic relations, and over the past week, Eritrean troops have been seen in northern Tigray with Ethiopia launching drone strikes against their forces. A foreign security source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told AFP they estimated 5,000 to 8,000 Eritrean soldiers were present in Tigray. Eritrea’s conduct is “a blatant act of aggression that engages Ethiopia’s inherent right to self-defence”, Ethiopian Foreign Minister Gedion Timothewos wrote in a letter to diplomats. Bears GM Ryan Poles: ‘No concerns at all’ about Caleb Williams’ interest in Bears

INDIANAPOLIS — There has long been speculation that USC quarterback Caleb Williams, the top prospect in the draft, doesn’t want to play for the Bears. Williams and his representatives haven’t said anything publicly indicating that, though, and Bears general manager Ryan Poles doesn’t believe there’s any merit to those rumors.

“No, no, no concerns about that at all,” he said Tuesday. “I would love to know why, if that was the case. As a young quarterback, and I’ve been around it, the infrastructure is important, and we’ve made really good progress in terms of having really good infrastructure for whoever were to come in — or if Justin [Fields] were to stay here as well.”

The Bears have the Nos. 1 and 9 picks in the draft, as well as Fields, who will be entering his fourth season and should be somewhat in demand. Poles said teams have constantly been inquiring about his interest in trading the top pick and Fields.

Israel says situation on Lebanon border ‘not sustainable’

By James Mackenzie Reuters  Israeli officials and media reacted with satisfaction on Monday after a  long-expected missile attack  by the Iranian-backed Hezbollah movement appeared to have been largely thwarted by pre-emptive Israeli strikes in southern Lebanon. Both Hezbollah and Israel seemed content to let Sunday’s attack, in retaliation for the  killing of a senior Hezbollah commander  in Beirut last month, count as settled for the moment.
