Russian drone strike kills 2, wounds 14 in Ukraine’s Odesa

Two people were killed and at least 14 wounded when a Russian drone smashed into a residential high-rise in Ukraine’s Black Sea city of Odesa, authorities said on Saturday. Three children were among the wounded in the overnight attack, with one in critical condition, said regional Governor Oleh Kiper. Footage posted by the State Emergency Service showed firefighters battling a blaze and rushing residents down a dark stairwell in the 21-storey building. Russia has stepped up drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks as diplomatic efforts to end the nearly three-and-a-half-year-old war have stalled. Blackhawks’ Taylor Raddysh faces difficult task of repeating 20-goal breakout

Image
Taylor Raddysh tied for the Blackhawks’ team lead with 20 goals last season. Michael Reaves/Getty Images If Taylor Raddysh can repeat the productivity and reliability of his 2022-23 season in 2023-24, it would not only aid the Blackhawks but also earn him a sizable new contract. Indeed, this is a crucial year to determine his career’s longer-term trajectory, and he knows it. “It’s a big season for me,” said Raddysh, 25. “I feel like it’s kind of a contract-year type of thing. I’m just trying to keep building off of last season and...keep trying to define my role with this team. [I intend] to show them I want to be here and be here for a long time. That’s my goal.” Entering last season, looking at the lack of established offensive talent on the Hawks’ roster, it seemed inevitable somebody would emerge out of the blue and put up decent point totals. After all, somebody was going to have to score the team’s goals. Raddysh ended up being that guy. A year after making littl...

Is Dogecoin A Topic Of The Past? Social Media Talks At Lowest Since 2020

Image
Data shows the social dominance of Dogecoin has dropped to the lowest value since 2020, implying that interest in the meme coin has disappeared. Dogecoin And Other Meme Coins Have Seen Declining Interest Recently According to data from the on-chain analytics firm Santiment , meme coins have been occupying a smaller part of the trader interest in the cryptocurrency sector recently. The relevant indicator here is “social dominance,” but to understand it, the social volume, a metric that it’s based on, must be looked at first. The “ social volume ” is basically a measure of the amount of discussion around a given coin that users on the major social media platforms are participating in. The metric calculates this value by going through a collection of text-based data (assembled by Santiment) to see the total number of unique posts/threads/messages that are making mentions of the asset in question. The reason behind counting unique posts and not simply mentioning them is that the latte...

It offers the appearance of a big, intense coaster while maintaining a kid-friendly appeal that young riders are sure to enjoy. The top speed is 27 mph.  The coaster features exciting elements like climbs, dips, S curves, and even a horizontal loop, all designed with kids in mind. It provides plenty of fun without being overly intense. The Rookie Racer is tailored for kids measuring over 36 inches in height.  Additionally, there's the option to run it for a single lap, which is particularly useful when there's a long line. ‘Heist 88’ review: Drab Chicago crime thriller just robs you of your time

Image
Jeremy Horne (Courtney B. Vance) spells out his plan to rob First National Bank of Chicago in “Heist 88.” SHOWTIME The dry, drab and disappointing would-be crime thriller “Heist 88” is a prime example of a movie that has all the right ingredients on the table but fails to create an appetizing entrée at nearly every turn. It’s a film that initially intrigues but quickly loses its way — and ends so abruptly it almost feels like everyone lost interest and decided it was time to go home. As reported earlier in a Sun-Times article more entertaining than the movie, “Heist 88” is loosely based on the true story of Armand Moore and the audacious but failed bank heist he masterminded in Chicago in 1988, when he tried to wire tens of millions of dollars from First National Bank of Chicago to phony overseas accounts. That’s some juicy source material, and with the great Courtney B. Vance in the lead role and a terrific supporting cast of familiar veterans and promising young talents...

Mike Martz: Time for Bears to bench QB Justin Fields

Image
Former Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz says it’s time to bench quarterback Justin Fields. Ashlee Rezin/Sun-Times Former Bears offensive coordinator Mike Martz has never been shy about weighing in on quarterback Justin Fields. Monday, he did it again, saying in a video posted to the 33rd Team, of which he is a contributor, that things will get worse if the Bears don’t bench their quarterback now. “I think this whole situation with him is demoralizing his team ...” Martz said. “If they don’t make a change, I think it’s just going to get worse, if it’s possible to get worse. It’s a demoralized football team that’s headed down ... I think you’re almost forced to make a change at this point.” He said Fields “just won’t get rid of the ball” and doesn’t anticipate throws well. “He’s trying to prove that he can play quarterback in this league,” he said. “I think he’s proved he’s probably not the case.” Martz, the Bears’ offensive coordinator from 2010-11, admitted the ...

New Clinton Street entrance to Union Station now open

Image
The Clinton Entrance, seen from inside the Great Hall in Union Station. Dave Newbart/Sun-Times It’s not just you — that entrance along Clinton Street at Union Station may be unfamiliar. That’s because it’s new. Since a 1980 fire in which one person died, that space along Clinton street had not been occupied other than for storage, Magliari said. The space formerly had a restaurant that was gutted by the fire, Magliari said, after which the windows were removed and the openings were bricked over. Now, a new entrance is wide open, with new windows looking into the Great Hall. An elevator allows the entrance to comply with the Americans with Disabilities Act, Magliari said, though he added that Amtrak also has been seeking quotes for adding temporary ramp to allow wheelchair users to go from street level to floor level. The entrance at Clinton and Jackson Boulevard has long been equipped with automatic doors and a ramp into the Great Hall, Magliari said. Colorful posters t...
