Russian drone strike kills 2, wounds 14 in Ukraine’s Odesa

Two people were killed and at least 14 wounded when a Russian drone smashed into a residential high-rise in Ukraine’s Black Sea city of Odesa, authorities said on Saturday. Three children were among the wounded in the overnight attack, with one in critical condition, said regional Governor Oleh Kiper. Footage posted by the State Emergency Service showed firefighters battling a blaze and rushing residents down a dark stairwell in the 21-storey building. Russia has stepped up drone and missile strikes on Ukrainian cities in recent weeks as diplomatic efforts to end the nearly three-and-a-half-year-old war have stalled. This evaluation comes following the recent announcement by Ripple Labs regarding its acquisition of Metaco, a cryptocurrency custody firm, for $250 million. Bitcoins Price Pause At $30000 Triggers Sale Response From Short-term Holders

Image
The crypto market is an intricate shade of varying investment strategies and market behaviors, weaving together patterns that create the volatile landscape that has come to be associated with digital currencies. One thread within this complexity is the activity of short-term Bitcoin holders, who, despite modest profit margins, are keen to sell as Bitcoin stalls around $30,000. The recent price lull has sparked a reevaluation among investors, specifically those who’ve managed to turn a profit in the month’s relatively stagnant market. Short-term holders (STHs), defined as entities holding onto their Bitcoin for 155 days or less, are the ones primarily driving this shift in market behavior. Short-term Holders Eyeing Exchange Outlets On-chain analytics firm, Glassnode, has noticed a distinct pattern through tracking wallet activity. The firm reported a significant uptick in Bitcoin being transferred to exchanges, indicating an increased interest among STHs in liquidating their assets...

Which one-time Cardinals have played for the most teams?

ST. LOUIS - Baseball fans are engaging with a new daily challenge through ImmaculateGrid.com , one that occasionally comes with a St. Louis Cardinals theme. As part of the daily challenge, fans are asked to recall nine current or former MLB players who meet specific criteria. It could be naming a player that played on two specific teams (like the Cardinals and Cubs). It could also be naming a star who reached who played for one team and reached a tough career achievement (like 3,000 hits) or season standard (like 20 wins). The inspiration is based on an immaculate inning , a feat in which a pitcher strikes out three players on the minimum nine pitches. Leaked Trump audio proves he cares nothing for the rule of law

Donald Trump speaks at Trump National Golf Club in Bedminster, N.J., on June 13. Audio of Trump bragging about classified documents leaked to CNN. Andrew Harnik/AP A new and damning audio recording,  aired first on CNN , is shocking to say the least. In it, former President Donald Trump is being interviewed by a writer for a memoir of Mark Meadows, Trump’s former chief of staff. Like taking candy from a baby, we can hear while the writer butters him up with easy praise and conspiracy theories to a point where Trump is so titillated he takes out a stack of classified Pentagon documents outlining his administration’s plans to attack Iran. “These are the papers,” boasts Trump at his Bedminster golf club in New Jersey, as the classified documents can be heard rustling. “Pages long. Except it is highly confidential, this is secret information,” he acknowledges, after making a crack about Hillary Clinton’s emails. Needless to say, this is a damning piece of evidence in Speci...

ST. LOUIS - Nearing the halfway point of the season, the St. Louis Cardinals are in a pivotal spot where the team will soon need to decide if they're contenders or pretenders for the 2023 season. After hosting two games in London, the Cardinals return home to Busch Stadium behind a 32-45 record. They're 8.5 games back of the closest path to postseason (the NL Central title) and some models are giving them only a 3% chance to make the big dance this year. Riccardo Muti Missa Solemnis review: Maestro CSO triumphant

Music Director Riccardo Muti leads the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus and distinguished soloists in a performance of Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis” on Friday night at Orchestra Hall. © Todd Rosenberg Photography For most of the 2022-23 season, Riccardo Muti has downplayed his departure as music director of the Chicago Symphony Orchestra after 13 years, sticking to the more or less normal fare we have come to expect of him, in part because the maestro is in no way leaving for good. He will still have a strong presence with the orchestra in coming seasons. But any sense of normality came to end Friday evening, as Muti culminated his official tenure at Orchestra Hall with a towering triumph. In the first of a set of three performances, he and the Chicago Symphony Orchestra and Chorus presented a powerful, probing and deeply affecting take on Ludwig van Beethoven’s “Missa Solemnis (Solemn Mass)” in D Major, Op. 123. Bitcoins Rally Amid Potential ETF Approvals Crypto Embraced By Finance Giants

Image
Since the existence of the world of crypto, Bitcoin has demonstrated noteworthy performance. Gaining momentum over the past week, the renowned digital currency is poised to mark one of its most robust weeks this year, according to Bloomberg. This uptick is largely influenced by speculative hopes around exchange-traded funds (ETFs) potentially unlocking new demand avenues for Bitcoin, the largest crypto asset. Despite the slight decline today, BTC remained resilient, positioned for an 18% weekly gain – the highest since March. This comes amid relative calm in smaller altcoins such as XRP, Cardano, and Solana. This upward trend in Bitcoin’s value is largely driven by whispers of new avenues for mainstream institutional involvement. Proposed Bitcoin ETFs Fuel Market Optimism The influence of institutional interest in Bitcoin cannot be understated, as June 15 saw BlackRock Inc ., the world’s most prominent asset manager, make an unexpected filing with the Securities and Exchange Commi...

NASCAR fan: Paying big bucks to watch is no more ridiculous than golf

Reader Rey Kadon took this shot of the Miller High Life 400 in Brooklyn, New York, in 1989. “Who wouldn’t have fun on a charter bus with a bunch of your coworkers and kegs of beer?” he recalled. Rey Kadon/Provided An apology is in order. I’m so inured with the toxic free-fire zone that pops up around controversial issues, it’s easy to lose sight of the fact that most people are decent and sensible. When I invited readers Wednesday to write in explaining the allure of NASCAR , I didn’t really expect that people would then actually, you know, write in explaining the allure of NASCAR. But that’s exactly what they did: thoughtful, often heartfelt reflections and celebrations of the sport. So as much as I like to flit nimbly from topic to topic, it felt wrong to just ignore them. So here goes. Opinion bug Opinion Neal Elkind finds beauty in the races, writing: “NASCAR has more in common with watching baseball than maybe you may realize. It’s a wonderfully lazy spectator ...
